If you’re looking for an authentic handle there is, or at least used to be, an easy telltale. The underside of the fat end should have Huf and 6569 embossed into it.
It does appear that reproductions are now showing up with “Huff” and “6569” markings. I’ve seen at least one “OEM version” from Sierra Madre.
When buying a used hood handle, you’ll want to be aware of broken or missing studs. The two at the big end are threaded, and should be easy to replace. The three along the main spine are pressed or molded in. If you’re missing one of these, it might be a time-consuming repair.
Ours was completely missing. I was fortunate to find an original in extremely good shape via the Porsche 356 Registry Classifieds. Arrived today in really nice condition. No dings, or major scratches or pits. I’m curious to remove the emblem and see if it’s original too.
The crest is a topic unto itself. Best saved for another post.
