Quite a lot of parts came back from Soren’s machine shop this week.
Heads: Key among them the fly cut heads. The original black coating is mostly intact. The valve guides in place, new valve springs, and new intake valves.
- Crankshaft, flywheel, pressure plate all balanced
- Cylinder head studs that were badly corroded were replaced with used one that were in much better shape
- Aluminum oil cooler from Willhoit‘s
We ended up going with new valve springs. Once Soren tested them, he determined they had adequate seated pressure, but fell short at full opening. They should have a min of 207 lbs., but checked out at 190 lbs. We went with new OEM springs.
The shims under the springs were a hodgepodge of proper shims and thick front suspension king pin shims. They were replaced with proper Porsche spring shims.
The engine case has been line-bored, had the oil gallery plugs removed, drilled and tapped. It has been media blasted, and gone through the parts washer.
