Our Solex 40P11-4 carburetors came back from restoration by Jim Kaufmann of 356 Carburetor Rescue. It took about 4 months, but they look great and seem like a lot of care was taken with them. Thanks to Candace Delaney for keeping track of things.
I originally considered trying to rebuild them myself. Both for education and cost savings reasons. I’m glad I didn’t. In addition to disassembly, cleaning, inspection, and general restoration, there were a host of things to address. Among the work order items:
- Replace one bad float
- Supply missing pump barrel lock nut
- Replace/repair both throttle levers
- Replace both worn pump rods
- Replace one usable float spring
- Replace 2 rusty pump rod springs
- Replace on broken diffuser hold down screw
Not a small check to write, but critical to smooth running. No time to cheap out now…
