After months of waiting for resolution on the crankshaft, I was excited to start the engine rebuild (for the second time). Things started out quite smooth, and it was a satisfying bit of time to see the connecting rods going on.
Unfortunately, when I got to the last torque, on the last nut, on the last connecting rod, the stud snapped. I was doing everything by the book. I have a good quality Craftsmen torque wrench. I started at 15 foot pounds and went up in 5 pound increments, alternating nuts util I got to 33.
I’m now left wondering if I be concerned about all the rods. If not, then I still have to find a balanced weight matching fourth rod. Or I’m back to starting over with a whole new set of rods, and starting the engine rebuild all over for a third time.
I don’t know why the Porsche gods seem to be angry, or how to appease them…
