There are a number of special Porsche tools suggested in the factory manuals. Among them is one for correctly installing the flywheel, also known as rear main seal (RMS). The key is to get the seal inserted evenly and to proper depth. The original tool was actually Volkswagen part VW204B. As you might expect, originals are tough to find. A used example from The Samba Classifieds appears here.
Luckily reproductions are available from places like Pelican Parts for around $60. And a different take from Zims that looks like a big washer. I’m not clear if it sets the depth properly. While it sucks to buy a tool to use once, what’s peace of mind for minimizing potential for an oil leak worth?
For the DIY and or cheapskate, there are suggestions of using PVC pipe coupler. And some examples posted online.
Keep the faith.
