Cleaned out the third piece of brass bits today. Discovered that the distributor drive gear had jumped enough that the shim had come out of place and was sitting in the bottom of the case. Good that I found that. If it weren’t for dumb luck, I don’t think I would have any with this engine.
With my recently learned art of using a torch to heat things, the brass gear swap went quite smoothly. I’m now waiting for a replacement gasket for the third piece.
I will go ahead and assemble the heads and rockers so that we can keep making progress.
