I started compiling a list of things to do while the engine and transmission are out of the car. Ease of access can sure simplify things. What I discovered is “let’s just rebuild the engine” and get it on the road has become quite a project!
I came up with a pretty lengthy list. I’m sure it will grow / change:
- Plastic fuel lines – replace
- Fuel line secure and protect per recall 9J
- Fuel line replace cloth with rubber – replace
- Engine mount – replace
- Transmission mounts – replace
- Clutch, pressure plate, flywheel – replace
- Clutch cable – replace
- Accelerator cable – replace
Fuel pump relocation related to TSB P213 on vapor lockThis was primarily a 914 issue.- Voltage plate cover per recall 9K
- Rear wheel bearings
- CDI – refurb
- Shocks – eval
- CV joints – inspect / replace
- Fuel pump – eval. Turns out we didn’t even have one.
- Heater hoses – eval
- Rubber, including grommets, engine bay seals, etc.
- Brake pressure regulator
- Hard brake lines
- Cables if needed: speedo, tach
There is more that I will do in the name of safety and reliability, but these are the ones that should be easier with the engine out of the car.
