As luck would have it, the very highly regarded Elgin Cams business is located in my hometown. I had the good fortune to meet Dimitri “Dema” Elgin today when I dropped off my camshaft. A walking encyclopedia of engine knowledge, and very nice guy to boot.
His initial inspection suggests the cam is workable. Apparently 356 camshaft gears normally have “VW” on the. So that’s one less component I need to worry about having been carelessly replace.
On another good note, Mr. Elgin referred me to a local machine shop run by Soren Andersen. This is the second reference I’ve gotten for Soren. The first being Steve de Jung of de Jung Motorsport. Nice to have two reputable shops in our backyard. Not only will it save on shipping, but I prefer to work with local businesses when I can. Soren and Deimitri speaking directly is probably a good thing too. Yea!
