Here are the heads after Soren has run them through his spray washer. Quite a bit of pitting. He didn’t seem too concerned though.
The factory black coating for a Super 90 head is not in great shape. We will retain as much of it as possible. It is not just an aesthetic identifier of Super 90 originality, but apparently had some thermal benefits too.
Now for the work:
- Flycut
- All guides need replacing
- New intake valves
- Some stud repair. I couldn’t get a couple out myself.
- Springs are within spec sheet tolerances, but should be pressure checked
On the case front. No surprises. Whew! Soren hasn’t found any cracks or welds. Probably needs to be align bored. After he takes out the long case studs, I will glass bead blast it to clean the corrosion from the crevices. Then I’ll had it back to him for align boring.
Given I’m bead blasting, Soren will remove the oil galley plugs and tap them for threaded plugs. Can’t risk having media mixed in the oil flow.
