A major milestone today, as the cylinders went on. It was not without its challenges. First off was the ring compressor.
When you follow this sequence of engine building (i.e. Harry Pellow preferred method):
- The rods on the crank
- The crank in the case
- The pistons on the rods
you get a scenario that dictates the type of ring compressor you can use. I originally had bought a wind up band type. The problem is, once you put the cylinder on, the band is trapped between it and the case. There’s no way to get the ring compressor off.
So you need the plier type, which when released leaves an opening in the band. Even then, it is a bit tricky to get the band opening oriented around the cylinder studs and connecting rod.
