We had some good fortune in finding some parts that we didn’t think we had. Chief among them was flapper boxes (aka heat control valve). The 914-6 original ones are a bit unique in that they have a hole in the cap not found in 914-4 or reproduction parts. Some bead blasting and powder coat will serve us quite well.
We found that we had a starter after all. It was still attached to the transaxle. It will get tested and perhaps used in place of the alternate I obtained and began to rebuild.
My dad had also obtained a 3-pin Capacitor Discharge Ignition box (CDI), in addition to the one still mounted to the car. It uses the 12 Volts from the car’s battery and converts it into 450 volts, and eliminates the need for a flux capacitor (err condenser) on the distributor. Since I can’t get to the one bolted to the car, I am going to send the spare off to AshlockTech for testing, repair, and refurbishment. One less worry about reliability.
It would appear we have a voltage regulator still mounted to the car. We will hope that is still in working condition. There’s also a mystery box attached to the front of the engine compartment. Will be interested to figure out what the heck that is.
