Seeking to get our poorly primed and finished rear valance to match the rockers or and front valance? It is a combination of both color and texture. Went through several forum threads. The recommendations range from BBQ grill paint to what seems like the most likely option of Wurth Underbody Stone Guard Black. It is $40 […]

Came across some items in my dad’s 914 parts stash that will turn out to be very helpful. They appear to be original and are hard to find. Yea!

We have two old horns. The appear to be correct for our car, but I am not certain. One worked fine when wired to a car battery. The other is silent. Luckily the silent one has bolts instead of rivets so I could easily open it up. The corrosion doesn’t look too bad to me.

I have a single black key. It is old, but perhaps not original since it seems to be acting as a valet key. Meaning it operates the ignition and doors, but not the rear trunk or frunk handle. In theory, there should be a black key with access to all. A red key (valet) only

Finally got the car down off the lift which allowed me to get to the bottom (bad joke intended) of several things. I think car had some rust issues which inspired a previous owner (PO) to take the car to a rust treatment specialist. This would explain: Wow! Lots uncovered. Lots to process. While some

My dad had a set of 914 engine tin. A little surface rust, but otherwise in good shape. Compared to other sets I had seen, it seemed some shaping and holes were missing. Did a little research and I learned this wasn’t a factory kit. More likely an old set from a company called GPR.

More research on how original some of our existing parts are. This time a rear valance that’s a bit rough looking. Luckily though, it seems to be correct for a 914-6? Referenced some photos in the Restorer’s Guide to Authenticity, but the angles make it a little hard to tell. Checking with the friendly folks on

Another part shared with the 911, meaning several different flavors and potential compatibility issues. The HUB EXTENSION COMPLETE BLACK, part number 911-106-033-00 is known by a variety of names. Which makes it harder (err more fun) to find one to buy since they are NLA. Let’s try every possible variation of Air, Cooling, Fan, Alternator,

TLDR; If you want a good approximation for black engine paint on a Porsche 914 Prismatic Powders Card Black is a good choice for powder coat. Dupli-color Semi-Gloss Black Engine Enamel with Ceramic DE1635 is a decent spray can match for things you can’t powder coat (e.g. starter motors). Similar to the exercise I did

In the continuing tale of close but no cigar, we come to radios. The historical information I got from Pateman is pretty specific: M453 Blaupunkt Frankfurt US retractable antenna with loudspeaker & noise suppression. Our car has a Motorola in it, for who knows why? To my delight, one of the 914 my dad has
